Welsh national team for S.A.?
NZPA-Reuter Johannesburg The Welsh national rugby team will! tour South Africa next year if a six-match South African tour by the ' Welsh Academicals rugby club is successful, according to the Academical's manager, Mr. John Newman. He said: "The tour is being closely watched by the Welsh Rugby Union and if it proves to be a success, which I am certain it will be. nothing will stop Wales touring South Africa next year." The Academicals arrived at Cape Town Airport on Sunday. The team, led by the British Lions player. Jeff Squire, and which includes several Welsh internationals, will start its tour against
South African Universities tomorrow at the University of Cape Town. Mr Newman said that the team , had encountered little opposition and no demonstrations against the tour in Wales. He had replied. "Definitely yes." on Welsh television last week when he had been asked if it was right to proceed with the tour at a time when the Springboks were experiencing difficulties in their tour of New Zealand. He said: "Politics should not be brought into sport and a small minority must never be allowed to lay down rules or to prescribe to the majority."
