Club’s future in air
The Cashmere-Wanderers soccer club has not yet decided whether it will try for promotion to the Rothmans League for next season. Provided Cashmere beats Timaru City in its final Hertz League match on Saturday, it cannot be headed off for the top position in the northern zone. It is most unlikely Cashmere will not beat Timaru. giving it 32 points from its 18 games. Cashmere will then be eligible to play off against the southern zone winner for the right to be the region’s entrant to the national competition. But the harsh financial realities of playing in the country’s premier soccer league might be enough to persuade Cashmere to stay in the cheaper regional league.
