Melbourne firmer
Leading • miners made some headway on the Melbourne Stock Exchange yesterday; although trading was quiet it was firmer. The Sydney Stock Exchange was closed.
Better copper prices overseas boosted Bougainville from 155 c to 160 c before settling back to close at 158 c — up 8c on Friday’s close.
CRA also did well to add 10c to 415 c, MIM added 6c to 374 c and Peko Wallsend moved up 4c to 650 c. Oil and gas explorers were also firm. Vamgas put on 20c to $12.80, Petroleum Securities 10c to 620 c, and Woodside recovered 5c to 173 c. Elsewhere. Consolidated Rutile. added 10c to 490 c, Kitchener 15c to 270 c and CN Gold also managed a 10c rise to 650 c.
But GMK moved against the firmer trend, dropping 22c to 608 c. On the industrial boards, CSR came back 10c to 540 c, but McPherson weakened 8c to 162 c, CBC Sydney fell 6c to 680 c and ODE shed 10c to 235 c. Last week’s property revaluation announcement by Myer sparked early sales to 210 c, but it finished 9c down on Friday’s close, at 200 c.
