Crane kills officer
PA Napier A Japanese ship’s officer was killed when he was crushed by a crane during loading at the Port of Napier on Thursday.
The man. a ship’s third officer, aged 24, was crushed by a giant mobile crane which straddles the Sunny Napier, a vessel which carries wood and pulp between Napier and Tomakomai in Japan. Senior-Sergeant M. L. Cull, of the Napier police, said the man was taken to hospital about 7 p.m. where he died two hours later. The police would not release the man’s name until relatives had been told.
