Singers of high quality
Out of more than 200 entries this year, the Mobil Song Quest started with 36 competitors who had to be under the age of 40 to be eligible. This number was reduced by a pane] of three judges, first to 18 and then to 12. with the competition broadcast op the national programme on Sunday afternoons.
Out of the 36, 11 were from Christchurch and of these, four are finalists. The full list of finalists is:
Diane Low. Jillian Bartram. Janette Riley and John Harker from Christchurch: Gillian Trott. Susan Boland. Isabel Cunningham and Richard Phillips from Auckland; Marion Olsen and Linden Loader from Wellington: Glenese Metcalfe from Hamilton: Peter Stewart from Wanganui. Both Diane Low and Jillian Bartram will be performing in the Christchurch Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Die Fledermaus in September.
