Bani-Sadr arrest
NZPA-Reuter Teheran. Seven people suspected of helping the former President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr flee from Iran have been arrested. The head of the Armed Forces Courts (Hojatoleslam Mohammad! Ghafari) told the Iranian news agency Pars that Mr Bani-Sadr probably hid near the airport for two days before boarding a military Boeing .707 to escape. ___
Two ambulances were seen near the plane before it took off for Paris last week. The pilot, Colonel Moezi, had been ousted from the Air Force on July 27, 1980, but was restored to duty by President Bani-Sadr after the outbreak of war with Iraq. The Hojatoleslam said Mr Bani-Sadr’s wife probably escaped with him. Meanwhile Iran said yes terdav that no Iranian had
been executed for being a member of the Bahai religious sect. “So far no-one holding the Bahai belief has been executed in Iran,” Iranian radio quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying. Bahaism, a breakway Islamic sect, is not recognised in Iran, and spokesmen for the sect have said many of its followers in Iran have been executed.
