A crew of scouts from the Mount Pleasant group soon after the start of a marathon row in their five-metre cutter Leander from the Estuary to Lyttelton yesterday. Four teams of boys, aged between 11 and 19, took turns at the oars, completing the
journey in a little more than four hours. The day was calm and the tide favourable, said the organiser, Mr D. J. O’Rourke. The row was held to raise funds for a new cutter, which will be used by the scouts for seamanship training.
