Smithfield market
Trading in the New Zealand lamb market in the United Kingdom was firmer in a trading week shortened by the Royal Wedding, reports the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board in its weekly market survey. The' trend resulted largely from the continuing recovery in domestic lamb prices which rose by up to lOp per lb at abattoirs.
Some gains in prices -for bulk sales of New Zealand lamb were also reported, although these are yet to be reflected on Smithfield or flepot price lists. On Smithfield. prices quoted for New Zealand lamb were: PL grade 54-56 p

Increased interest from buyers prompted a slightly better tone on the United States imported beef market last week. Imported cow beef averaged 104 U.S. cents per lb c.i.f.. up lc from the previous week. The Japanese mutton market continued in its unspectacular fashion last week, with sales of some parcels of MM grade mutton at 60 U.S. cents per lb c. and f. Japan. Reports indicate that some smaller Japanese processors are low in stocks'’ and are looking into the boneless mutton market.
