$13M lottery grants
PA Wellington A total $13.19M was granted by the Lottery Board to organisations for the year ended March 31. 1981. The board's annual report, tabled in Parliament, says that last year saw a marked increase in the number of applications received by distribution agencies. 646 compared with 397 for the previous year. Major grants were made to the Welfare Services Distribution Committee (S2M). the Scientific Distribution Committee ($400,000). the
Medical Research Distribution Committee ($400,000), the Welfare of Aged Persons (SI.2M). General Purposes Committee ($6.04M), Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council (SI.2M), and the Film Commission ($700,000). The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet) also allocated SI.2M to organisations which fell within the ambit of the legislation but were not covered by any of the distribution committees. Included in this was a grant of $300,000 to the New Zealand Opera.
