'TV personality’ on dangerous driving charge
A man described as a “television personality." was remanded at large to July 6 when he appeared before Judge Fogarty in the District Court yesterday on a charge of dangerous driving. No plea was entered by Peter Robert Hawes, aged 33, who is alleged to have driven along Gloucester Street and Montreal Street on May 11 in circumstances which might have been dangerous to the public. 12 CHARGES A man who faces 12 charges, including seven of wilful damage, was remanded to August 28 in custody. Keremihana Hirane George, aged 26. unemployed, admitted breaking seven windows or door panes, to a total value of $lll5. He denied a charge of threatening to kill, assault with intent to injure, possession of a knife in Colombo Street, and unlawfully getting into a $l2OO car. Counsel (Mr D. j. Taffe) asked that all charges be
remanded to August 28, the date for the hearing of the defended charges. The alleged offences all took place on May 23. 24 CHARGES Peter Shane Gibson, aged 28, was remanded in custody until today when ■ he appeared on 24 charges of false pretence. Gibson is alleged to have committed the offences in Auckland. Wellington and Christchurch in 1976. Bail, sought by the duty solicitor (Mr J. S. Halls), was opposed by Detective Sergeant D. K. White. Mr Halls said the defendant was in New Zealand on holiday. DRUG CHARGE A man charged with the possession of cannabis for sale or supply was remanded on bail to July 6. No plea was entered by the defendant, aged 40, who, at the request of counsel (Mr G. C. P. Beadel). was granted interim suppression of his name. The offence is alleged to have taken place yesterday.
