Mr Adshead resigns
PA , Auckland The New Zealand national soccer coach. Mr John Adshead's return to club football has been short-lived. The Manurewa Association Football Club approved a request for the release from his contract and appointed Mr Russ Toyne for the remainder of the; season. The club president, Mr John Fahey, said last evening that a letter from Mr Adshead's solicitor had been received and that the request from the World Cup committee for his release had been agreed to. "It appears thev, the World Cup committee, want him to be a free agent 'but, at the same
time, are not prepared to buy out the remainder of his contract,” said Mr Fahey. Mr Adshead, after an earlier term as coach at Manurewa, was reappointed late last year as manager-coach of-the club on a salary of $15,000. - Any suggestion that Mr Adshead was looking to get out of his contract sojie would take up an offer overseas was quickly dismissed, ' "I have had offers but tli,ey have not swayed me at all ” said Mr Adshead. "I have no plans of leaving New Zealand. Who knows just what the future holds — in three months time the World Cup could be all over.” ■ ■ '
