Vote on redundancy
Employees at A. M. Satterthwaite and Company, Ltd. will vote this morning on a redundancy agreement for 25 workers who will be laid off because of the company's restructuring plans. Employers and union representatives met yesterday and drew up an agreement to be presented to the workers. In total. 36 workers throughout New Zealand will be. given, their notice. Mrs D. Shannon, secretary of the Clerical Workers’
Union, said last evening that details of the proposed agreement would be released only after they had been presented to the workers. A black ban was put on the company last week by the Canterbury Trades Council. but it will be lifted immediately an agreement is reached. Twenty-two workers at the company’s Waltham Road bulk store were on a one-day strike on Friday in support of the redundancy claim.
