Heart units report out soon in full

Wellington reporter The full report on cardiac units in New Zealand will be pubished later this week. This move has beer prompted by publicity con cerning the report ii Christchurch. The report, dealing wit! coronary artery bypass graf surgery units, is in the forn of an audit by the Hospital Advisory Council. The Minis ter of Health (Mr Gair) saipublicity about the repor may have raised som doubts about the validity o the audit. again today to consider the further comments of interested parties on the report. which was circulated earlier this year. Mr Gair said that once he had studied the council’s comments he would make public the original report. A summary of the report had been released in late April, and had concluded that the Dunedin cardiac unit was a safe place for heart surgery. At the time the summary was published it had been explained that complex heart surgery figures were not included because, said Mr Gair, with the small numbers involved; this could lead to the identification of patients.
