Court case ‘if wage not paid’

A wage dispute between the owner of the Sandwich ’Factory fast-food bars in 'Christchurch .and the. Canterbury Hotel and Restaurant /Workers’ Union may result in a court case. 'The union’s secretary, Mr R.Lingard, said yesterday that unless the owner, Mr D. Henderson, paid a dismissed employee. $940 back-pay by Friday, the union would take ’the matter to court. .•The worker had been, paid • less than the appropriate award, Mr Lingard said. '■/Five other employees had also been paid less than the award, but they had received /some of their back pay after Mr Henderson had been approached; by-the union; . /y. Court action had already ; ibeen taken because the union had not been supplied with a list of names, of workers, and a date for the hearing of this complaint was awaited. Mr Lingard said that people working for Mr Henderson. who was associated with Zenith Applied Philosophy (Z.A.P.), had not traditionally been members of the union, and the union had riot pursued the: matter. • w However/, workers had approached the 'union, wishing to join, after action had been taken on behalf of.' the dismissed employee. After it was learnt that the. workers had,, apprpached the union, ' three were . from manageress, arid all five had. been moved to other shops, Mr Lingard said. it*'- ' ' . <l.. • ■ All had complained of . pressure from other Z.A.P, .management and staff, who saw the union as an enemy, >and had left their jobs.
