Irish call for two tour replacements

NZPA-Reuter Cape Town The injury-troubled Irish rugby team has called for the utility back, Mickey Quinn, to join the tourists as quickly as possible. Ireland received two blows on Saturday when their centre, Ollie Campbell, and full back, John Murphy, had to leave the field injured as their team went down 23-15 to the Springboks in thefirst test. The Irish have two matches left on the short tour, a game against the Gold Cup Invitation XV at Oudtshoorn on today and

the final test against the Springboks in Durban on Saturday. “I hope to have Mickey here by Tuesday and might even play him in the game that day,” said the anxious coach, Tom Kiernan. Mr Kiernan said that Campbell would not be able to play again on the tour after cracking a bone in his left wrist. Murphy is almost certain to be eliminated after sustaining a hamstring strain. Campbell and Murphy were two of the heroes in a stunning Irish performance which gave the previously all confident Springboks a shock.
