Canty loses badminton
Canterbury’s Division II badminton team, which has unsuccessfully contested the national final for the past 18 years, was eliminated in a zone play-off at Hutt Valley on Sunday. In the three-way play-off, Canterbury beat Hutt Valley. 14-2, but was beaten, 9-7, by Wellington. Wellington won the zone with its subsequent 12-4 win over Hutt Valley. Wellington will go on to take part in the national final, which will be held in the capital city at the start of August. Final points: Wellington 29, Canterbury 25,. Hutt Valley six.
