Tonga posting
PA Wellington .. New Zealand's new High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Tonga will be Mr John Brady. Mr Brady will take up his ■ post soon, replacing Mr R. G. Gates, who has returned to ; Wellington. Announcing the appoint- ■ ihent, the Minister of ! Foreign Affairs (Mr Taiboys) said that the Kingdom of Tonga was one of New Zealand's nearest neighbours and shared many historical and cultural links with New i Zealand.
Mr Brady is a career diplomat. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1959. His previous overseas postings have been in Washington, Suva, and Peking. Most recently, he has been head of the Defence and Asian Divisions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was born in Auckland and educated at Wellington College, Wanganui Collegiate School, and Victoria University of Wellington, where he completed B.A. and Ll.B. degrees.
