‘Mad after all’
NZPA London Prison warders monitoring the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, say that he is mad after all, the “Daily Express” reported yesterday. Since his conviction and sentence last month on 13 counts of murder Sutcliffe had been under round-the-clock observation at London's Wormwood Scrubs Prison, where he spends 23
hours a day alone in his cell. The report said this was part of the assessment process which would ultimately decide where he would spend his 30-year sentence. One warder said he spoke to Sutcliffe every day, and that his “actions, attitudes, fits of depression and manner of conversation led warders to the conclusion that Sutcliffe was quite mad.” ' '
