Games boycott sought
NZPA Canberra A group of Queensland Aboriginals plans a trip to Africa to gain further support for an African boycott of the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane. The decision had been made as a result of the lack of Federal Government support to Aboriginals and Torres Strait islandeis who opposed Queensland’s controversial Aborigines and
Torres Strait Islanders Acts. The trip was announced by three,Queensland Aboriginals who. Were travelling to Canberra this week for a series of talks with Government officials. The Aboriginals represented the three main organisations campaigning against what they see as Queensland Government racism. They are Mr Michael
Miller, president of the North Queensland Land Council; Mr Eric Kyle, president of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Legal Service; and Mr Robert Weatherall, executive officer of the Foundation for Aboriginal and Islanders Research Action, Ltd. The first appointment of the delegation was with the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Senator Peter Baume, in Sydney yesterday.
