Canterbury A scored a clear-cut win in the final of the South Island women’s soccer tournament at English Park yesterday. The home team beat Otago by five goals to one cifter.'leading. 2-1, at half-time. Goals for Canterbury were scored by Carol Adamson (2), Joanne Olson, Tina Faichnie and Michelle Hutchins, to one by Vivienne Robertson for Otago. Robertson apealed as the best player at the tournament. Canterbury’s “player of the day”' in the final was Rowena Nutira.

In the play-offs between the top two teams in each section, Otago beat Canterbury B, 1-0, and Canterbury A beat Southland, 3-0. The match. between the third placed teams in each section ended with Canterbury under-18 beating South Canterbury, 2-1. The play-off for third place -in the tournament resulted in a win by. Canterbury B over Southland on a count-back of penalties. The score was 1-1 at the end of ordinary time, and 2-2 at the end of extra time.
