Few buy synthetic carpet
Sales of New Zealandmade synthetic carpet in Christchurch are few, and seem to pose little threat to the wool carpet industry’. A survey of Christchurch retailers has shown that few stock the New Zealand-made
synthetic carpet, and that demand for it is small. The carpet, and an overseas' equivalent stocked by one firm, is sold in narrow widths. One retailer said he sold the synthetic carpet for $7O a
metre; the average woollen carpet cost $9O. . The carpet was usually sold in small lengths for use in bathrooms and toilets — areas where its waterproof qualities were needed, said 1 retailers. 1
