Labour Party policy

Sir,—Lack of knowledge is more dangerous still than a little knowledge, particularly in politics. Add naivety, and Peter Johnson (May 23) reveals both these political shortcomings when he attributes the financial disasters of Air New Zealand and New Zealand Railways to socialism, and the Labour government when everyone knows that the rot set in six years ago when National economic miracles turned sour. The Muldoon Government cut the Railways to the bone under its fallacious policy of cutting Government expenditure — merged N.A.C. and Air New

Zealand under conditions and policies which Labour predicted would fail, and they have. These are the dumb acts of a proudly acclaimed private enterprise party, not Peter Johnson’s alleged socialists. When the proposed carpet industry proves the success it will be, towards improved trade impetus and major employment trends under the fourth Labour Government from November 1981,1 trust he will be man enough to eat his words. — Yours, etc.,
