La Varis suit
PA Auckland A ; former National member of Parliament for Taupo, Mr R. J. La Varis, is suing five newspapers for a total of $1.3 million.
Five writs naming Mr La Varis as the plantiff were filed in the High Court at Auckland last week. • He sues the Manawatu “Evening Standard,” Hawke's Bay Newspapers, Allied Press, Ltd, and R. Lucas and Son (“Nelson Evening Mail”) for $300,000 each. He sues the Northern Publishing Company, Ltd, for $lOO,OOO. The Writs involve a report about Mr La Varis that was distributed by the Press Association and printed in the newspapers.
