Davenport, Barbour finalists

I PA Tauranga The title-holder, Nevan • Barbour, and a fellow-Auck-lander, Stuart Davenport, meet in today’s final of the men’s event at the North Island open squash championships. Another Aucklander, the top seed, Annette Owen, plays a Rotorua teenager, Susan Devoy, in the women’s final. Barbour has been in good touch throughout the tournament and he and Davenport have not lost a set. Yesterday Davenport breezed through Paul Viggers (Hawke’s Bay) 9-5, 93, 9-1, while Barbour beat Canterbury’s Rod Hayes, 9-5, 9-6, 9-3. The national champion, Miss Owen, has also not lost a set in her path to today’s final.

Miss Devoy yesterday defeated Jennie Webster (Auckland) in straight games. The only set she has dropped was to Mount Maunganui’s Karen Lever in the quarterfinals.
