Formidable stayer which won 1979 Grand National and Great Northern last year under 63.5 kg. But expected to be scratched. Colours: Browwn, light blue sleeves, crossed sr.shes and cap. 2— THUMPS ORF (13) 66 (7g, by Sylvalgo— Red Duchess, trainer D. H. McNab, Wanganui). Second to Guess who in Great Northern last year and later won Grand National. Scored early in jumps career over Ellerslie hill and has seldom failed to run well here since. Recent second was at Pukekohe, May 19. S. J. Jenkins Colours: McNa.b tartan, purple sash and cap. 3— PATRONE (14) 65 (7g, by Patron SaintRenfrew Lass, trainer N. G. Atkins, Waiuku). Won Park Lane’ Steeplechase, Ellerslie, May 2. Later second in Waikato Steeplechase, May 16, and unplaced on flat Rotorua May 23. Third in this one last year and knows Ellerslie course as well as any. R. W. Dashing win in Vercoe Steeplechase, Te Rapa, May 9 in first race since since Sept. Only sixth week later in Waikato Steeplechase. Fourth in Great Northern 12 months ago and won . Hillis, Riverton) From famous Riverton stable which has won Great Northerns with Eiffel Tower and Loch Linnhe! Took Great Western Steeplechase and ran third on flat at Riverton Easter fleeting then ninth on flat at Invercargill, May 9. Had “look” at Ellerslie country at jumping trials last Tuesday. R. D. Collett Colours: Royal blue, black braces, brown armbands and cap. 6— CHARLESTOWN (8) 59 (6g, by Charlton— La Grande Voleuse, trainer K. S. Browne Cambridge). Failed to find best last winter. Seems better this year as he showed when easy winner at Awapuni, May 20. Evidently best suited by soft track which is unlikely. K. Browne Colours: Brown, rose armbands and cap. 9—0944 SPARKLING BREW (11) 58.5 (7g, by Tazrula—Golden Linnet, trainer G. K. Saunders, Te Awamutu). Plodded on for distant fourth at Rotorua, May 23, although went much better week. before when fourth in Waikato Steeplechase. R. Rokela Colours: Red, light green sleeves, white band, red cap. 10— HIGH CHIEF (7) 58 (lOg, by Portofino— Showtime, trainer P. R. Wilson, Te Aroha) Veteran of field which has two Wellington Steeplechases to credit. Beat one in Waikato Steeplechase, May 16. Others have more promising form but he is a rugged stayer and always a chance. T. Harrison Colours: Red; white stripes, white cap. 11— PETER JACK (4) 57.5 (7g, by Lord Sasanof—Champagne Peak, trainer A. C. Clark, Takanini). Solid stayer and in good form. Creditable second to Patrone in Park Lane Steeplechase at Ellerslie, May 2, and ran on well for third in Waikato Steeplechase. P. Hillis Colours: Chocolate, turquoise diamonds and cap. 12— AURLADA (12) 57 (7m, by Aureate II— Falada, trainer R. N. Henry, Pukekohe). Reliable jumper, arid usually is running on. Third last time to Dual Purpose and Thumbs Orf at Pukekohe, May 19. C. J. Wood Colours: Cambridge blue, brown band, gold armbands and cap. 13— BARDACIN (10) 57 (sg, by Balios— Citreon, trainer N. G. Atkins, Waiuku). Won Autumn Steeplechase at Ellerslie, in only second ’chase start. Has raced soundly meantime against tougher opposition. Fifth in Tamaki Steeplechase at Elllerslie last Saturday. R. A. Johnson Colours: Orange, black crossed sashes, khaki annba.nds, khaki and orange quartered cap. 14— CRAIMAR (15) 57 (7g, by Mahbub Aly— Lady Bobo, trainer N. Crawford, Matamata). Prefers heavy ground but showed plenty of dash when fourth in Tamaki Steeplechase at Ellerslie last Saturday. One One of best hurdlers last winter and second to Mr Hickey in Wellington Hurdles. N. J. Hain Colours: Emerald green, gold spots and sleeves, red armbands and cap. 15— DENBY FOX (6) 57 (9g, by Fox MythLittle Nancy, trainer W. B. Cole, Te Kauwhata). Getting on in years but lightly raced. Nearly always runs on well and produced dogged finish to win Tamaki Steeplechase at Ellerslie, last Saturday. Should not have trouble with this long course. T. Gillies Colours: Red, white band. 16— SEANS MARK (3) 57 (Bg, by Entrepreneur —Society Lady, trainer N. G. Atkins, Waiuku). Maiden jumper and warrants little consideration. Colours: Sky blue, white sleeves and braces, scarlet armbands and c?,t. Scratched: Le Roy (1), Sugar King (16).
