Lincoln’s lead reduced

Sydenham edged’a litfl# closer p' to the pacemaker, Lincoln College, when it earned the perfect score of 20 in “The Press" Vf Centennial Cup rugby eompetition on Saturday, The gap is now u three points. The two teams were in opposi- •’/ tion and the referee, Mr Terry Marshall, gave both 12 out of 12 p for conduct, but Sydenham -1; picked up an extra point for how well it played to its abilities. High School-Old Boy* was a .. third side to maximum ' , points for conduct, which w|f, 'j perhaps, some small compensation after suffering a loss as . shattering as 3-31. In view of the score Old Boys might even have felt that Mr Mike Fitzgibbon was being gen- ?/ erous in awarding it five out of eight-for performance. Not surprisingly, University A, Jr the side which beat Old Boys, ~l could not be faulted on perfor- < mance and for sportsmanship it 'll received 10 out of 12. JI ■

The final twp games of . the night round were played last week and the teams are now on a par. A side which has improved appreciably this season is Suburbs. It was all alone at tbe bottom of the table last season, but is doing much, better, this winter, at present lying equal fifth.
