Youth training

Sir.—l would be interested to learn how your correspondent Mrs C. Anderson (May 27) would enforce compulsory youth training at age 18. Would defaulters be prosecuted and fined or be arrested and taken by force to the youth concentration camps 'the National Party is advocating? I would also ask where the money is coming from — taxation, or user-pays? If it is to be- the latter (usually National policy) then what about the huge number of youth unemployed who Nationa'l have made jobless and therefore unable to afford such luxuries? If the taxpayer is to be lumbered then what about the National Government's vast budget deficit? If this expense would not be too great for the governing party in election year then why are they not giving more assistance to existing youth organisations such as the financially hard-pressed Scout movement — or has National given up private enterprise in this area? — Yours, etc.. .
