Three union men convicted of airport trespass

PA Auckland Three union members have been convicted of trespassing at Auckland Airport during an industrial dispute in February. They appeared before Judge Richardson in the District Court at Otahuhu, Philip George Butterworth, aged 27, a sheetmetal worker, of Mission Bay, pleaded not guilty to azcharge of trespass under the Trespass Act and an alternative charge of trespass under . the Civil Aviation Regula-. tions.

Judge Richardson said the defendant was one of a group which had assembled in an area not open to the public, in front of the airport’s domestic terminal. The men were warned repeatedly that they were trespassing and would be arrested if they did nbt leave.

Butterworth was convicted under the Trespass Act and ordered to pay $5O towards the cost of prosecution. He was discharged without conviction on the other charge. William lan Walker, aged 27, an aircraft mechanic, of Avondale, changed his plea

to guilty on the Trespass Act charge. The alternative charge was withdrawn at the request of the police. Walker was ordered to pay $75 towards the prosecution costs. Earlier, the Judge had convicted Peter George Dennuy, aged 43, a union official, of Papakura, after a defended hearing. i Denny was ordered to pay ' $lOO costs, and was discharged without conviction on the alternative charge.
