one point for hitting a ball into a fence at the back of the court.. When he disputed this decision with the umpire he was penalised a further point and eventually restarted the game at 0-30. Edmondson dropped his serve and was finally beaten, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 2-6, 6-4. Onny Parun, of New Zealand, was defeated in three sets by Per Hjertquist, of Sweden, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
