These are new positions in the energy planning unit of the department of minerals and energy. Job procedures will need to be developed and could be similar in parts to those being utilised in the small hydro surveys being carried out in New Zealand. Degree qualifications and from 8 to 12 years or more experience with a significant portion of this in hydro electrical design, evaluation and planning discipline are required. One of the two civil engineeers and the electrical engineer will need more extensive experience than the second civil engineer. The electrical engineer must have sound knowledge of transmission systems, power planning, and financial and economic evaluation. Candidates must be confident and effective communicators. The electrical engineer will be appointed under contract to the PNG Government. The two civil engineers will be appointed under the New Zealand bilateral aid programme for a period of two years.
