Applicants should have a good background in the plant sciences, interest in agronomy, botany and seed technology is desirable. Initially the appointee will be based at Lincoln in the Plant Varieties Office. This Office, which administers the Plant Variety Rights scheme, is to expand its activities to allow Rights protection to become available for new varieties of additional crop, vegetable and herbage genera. The appointee would undertake developmental work and act as an examiner for applications. It is likely that at a later time the appointee may take up elsewhere the duties of a specialist Farm Advisory Officer (Agronomy). This position involves providing farmers with advice on crop and seed production and management, based upon sound agronomic principles. Some travelling within New Zealand would be involved.
