The South Isiand Branch is centred in Christchurch but has significant operations in several provincial centres. As would be expected the Branch has a reporting commitment to Group Head Office on a monthly basis however in most other re- ■ spects it operates as an autonomous unit. Consequently the position carries a high level of responsibility and requires a person with initiative, the ability to work unsuperyised and with experience in managing a sizeable clerical and accounting staff. The accountant for the Branch is primarily responsible to the South Island manager with an indirect responsibility to the Group Financial Controller and Company Secretaiy. Duties include monthly reporting, preparation of operating budgets and profit forecasts as well as the preparation of annual and interim financial reports. It is envisaged that to meet the requirements and challenges of the position, and to adequately take a place in the corporate management team, the successful applicant will have had several years experience in a senior accounting position and should preferably be qualified.
