DEREK GIBSON-SMITH’S goal for Wellington Diamond United against Mount Wellington last week-end was his sixtieth in Rothmans League soccer and only six players have scored more times in the league. Earle Thomas heads the list with 97, lain Ormond scored 90 times, followed by Bill de Graaf 83, Clive Campbell 73, Gary Paddison 64 and Brian Turner 62. 808 AYNSLEY, the West Coast rugby league official who will manage the South Island team against France at the Show Grounds next Wednesday evening, has had plenty of previous experience of teams from that country. Mr Aynsley, a former Kiwi hooker, was in the West Coast front row when France opened its pioneering tour of New Zealand at Greymouth in 1951, and four years later he was the referee when Canterbury beat France, 24-13, to record its only ’ victory over a full international side. ■ v
