Lawyer struck off rolls
BA Wellington Robert Frederick Arthur Powell, a Christchurch barrister and solicitor, has been struck off the roll of barristers and solicitors by the New Zealand Law Society’s disciplinary committee. The disciplinary committee also ordered that Mr Powell pay $9500 in respect of costs and expenses relating to the inquiries. The disciplinary committee found that Mr Powell had been guilty of misconduct in his professional capacity by virtue of his having been convicted last year in the High Court at Christchurch of 11 charges of fraudulent application of clients' money. Mr Powell had appealed against the order for costs, said the Law Society yesterday. s
