Buoved bv recent good profit reports and the continuing struggle for the control of Henderson and Pollard, the New Zealand sharemarket continued to firm in busy trading yesterday. The N.Z.U.C. index rose a further 416 points to a new peak of 381.54. Investors continued to favour Fisher and Paykel over Feltex, as the two companies fought for higher stakes m Henderson and Pollard. Fisher and Paykel firmed. Feltex eased, and the target company rose 25c to 550 c. Ballins. Consolidated Metal Industries. Firestone, and Odiins firmed, on profit reports, but Healing eased 5c as its profit announcement and bonus issue seemed to be discounted. Canterbury Frozen Meat lost 15c to 345 c as interest in the company seemed to be subsiding, and Lion Breweries, New Zealand South British and Winstone also eased.
