Bolivian coup bid quelled

General Luis Garcia Meza’s Government says it has quelled the second military uprising by a renegade colonel in 15 days in Cochabamba, Bolivia’s third biggest city.
General Garcia went oh television . yesterday in La Paz and announced that “seven or eight” officials had been arrested in Cochabamba and that they, had asked for foreign political asylum.
“We will be drastic in the measures we will take in the future toward anyone who tries to .disturb the peace,” he said. i
Two former presidents, Generals. Alberto Natusch Busch and Hugo Banzer, were involved in the uprising. he alleged. Both were sent into exile two weeks ago after the first uprising by Lieutenant-Colonel Emilio Lanza, ; commander of a paratroop regiment.
