P.M. urged to meet Rugby Union
PA): ' Tauranga HART has asked the Prime- Minister (Mr Muldoon) to "front up" at a Rugby Union council meeting on Friday. .’ .A , telegram. asking Mr Muldoon to attend the meeting was sent to Parliament yesterday, said the national organiser . for. HART, Mr John Minto, at Tauranga. ."In terms of supporting the Gleneagles Agreement, this is a step the Government can take.” he said.Mr Minto said that the meeting might be the last chance the Government had to make a "personal approach" to the Rugby Union. The Government had not asked the Rugby Union direct to call off the tour. "If it did this. I think the Rugby Union would have to call the tour off," Mr Minto said. Opposition to the tour was
mounting in New Zealand and overseas.
HART also intends sending Mr Muldoon a telegram about the decision of the Race Relations Conciliator. Mr Hiwi . Tauroa, to visit South Africa. "We will call on the Government to sack Mr Tauroa if he goes on this trip," Mr Minto said.
"He had the right to go. but he does not have to go there to find out the facts." he said.
