Furniture exports increased
PA Wellington Increases of about $2 million in the value of exports of furniture components to Australia under duty free provisions are permitted in the July-June trading year under a N.A.F.T.A. arrangement. Announcing details of the arrangement under the N.A.F.T.A. schedule B provision, the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr AdamsSchneider) said that New Zealand exports to Australia would be set at a level of ?A7,250,000 and imports of built furniture and components from Australia would amount to $NZ7,085,000. The levels for the 1980-81 year were $5.75 million and
<NZ5.135 million respectively. Mr Adams-Schneider said that under the arrangement provision was made for duty free entry into Australia of New Zealand furniture components while in return reciprocal duty free entry into New Zealand was given for completely built up furniture and components. No more than $A200,000 of the New Zealand exports to Australia was to cover metal furniture components. A maximum of $NZ260,000 would be available for metal furniture and components imported into New Zealand from Australia.
He added thht SNZI.9S million of furniture imports into New Zealand was specially reserved for parts and sub assemblies of wooden furniture.
