$500 grant for gay conference
A gay welfare conference, which will be held in Christchurch at Queen’s Birthday week-end, has received a $5OO grant from the Mental Health Foundation.
The grant will cover out-of-town speakers’ expenses. Dr lan Scott, of the department of community health at Auckland University, will address the conference. Dr Scott is the Labour Party candidate for Auckland’s Eden electorate. Dr Max Abbott, a clinical psychologist experienced in helping gay people adjust to "straight’’ society, will also speak. An organiser said that the calibre of the speakers and the Mental Health Foundation grant was recognition of the conference’s importance.
