Index at new peak
the N.Z.U.C. index rose 4.88 points to a new peak of 677.38 on a busy, firm New Zealand sharemarket yesterday, as interest centred on the struggle for the control of Henderson and Pollard. Feltex lost 1c to 172 c and Fisher and Paykel firmed 2c to 265 c as the two companies vied for the contrcl of Henderson and Pollard, which rose 37c to 525 c on a volume of 394,750 shares. However, there were also other areas of interest. Computer Consultants rose a further 20c. and Vacation and U.E.B. continued to improve. Canterbury Timber Products. Healing, and Progressive Enterprises reacted favourably to recent profit announcements and proposed bonus issues, and'Ballins firmed 4c after a good year and improved prospects.
