The economy
Sir,—lt is essential to clear the decks before the next election. When politicians of all political shades have the honesty, to produce a policy basing efficiency on the ability of the single-income family to . prosper then we may at last achieve social honesty. It is not a question of a shift to indirect taxation to conceal the fraud of a country that is trying to survive on internal ’ inflation with little regard fop the need to become export orientated.. The protection of bureaucracy and an all-powerful trade union empire decides the future progress of New Zealand. As the . non-productive sector waxes ; fat the unemployment problem is compounded by the fact that we have yet to come of age in • a productive sense and reward those who have the skills toensure our prosperity. With minority groups dictating the • tune, the star of the academic, continues to shine and the remarkable external principles of our banner wavers have yet to be focused on our internal problems. The world does not . owe us a living. — Yours, etc., . L. J. STEVENS. May 24, 1981.
