‘Close Up’
Martyn Bates (right), one of the reporting team on “Close Up” (One, Wednesday), was born in Cambridge, England, where he worked for some years as a newspaper reporter before emigrating to New Zealand in 1962 where he joined Wellington’s “Evening Post” as its parliamentary reporter. He joined the N.Z.B.C. in 1970, specialising in the politics and economics of primary industry, and current affairs. Mr Bates also worked as a reporter on “Seven Days” and "Dateline Monday” and for a while was on “Fair Go.”
