New weather service
PA Wellington A new weather-forecasting service designed particularly for mariners should be available in New Zealand by mid--1982, according to the office of the Minister of Civil. Aviation and Meteorological Services (Mr McLachlan). • It said that the service would broadcast by radio weather maps which could be recorded on any ship or land station within a 4000 km range which was equipped with suitable radio-facsimile receiving equipment. Tenders had been invited for the supply of suitable radio transmitters which would be installed at the Ministry of Transport’s transmitting station at Auckland Airport.
