NZPA London The romantic novelist, Barbara Cartland, has turned down an invitation to attend the Royal wedding. Miss Cartland, Lady Diana Spencer’s stepgrandmother, said last evening that she had been invited personally by Earl Spencer, her son-in-law. In a statement issued by her solicitor, Mr Nigel Longmore, Miss Cartland said: “My son-in-law, Lord Spencer, very generously
put me and one of my sons on his list of 50 guests for the Royal wedding at St Paul’s.
“But as I will be 80 on July 9, and I feel the wedding is an occasion for young people, I asked Lord Spencer to give my place to my other son, which he has done.”
Mr Longmore said last evening that as a result of Miss Cartland’s decision both her sons, lan and Glen McCorquodale, would attend the wedding.
