Canadian Rightist to visit N.Z.
PA Auckland The League of Rights will bring the director of the Canadian league to New Zealand in August to speak “about the true story of Social Credit in Canada.’’ Mr Ron Gostick “is one of the real living authorities on Social Credit in Canada,” according to the New Zealand league’s director, Mr David Thompson. League publicity calls him “one of Canada’s veteran and most outstanding Social Creditors.” Mr Gostick’s mother was a Cabinet Minister in the first Albertan Social Credit Government and he will come to New Zealand as “a service to
i voters who are thinking of 1 voting Social Credit,” Mr j Thompson said. “He will be talking of what : happened in Canada so that t the mistakes that occurred there will not happen here.” E New Zealand Social Credit i League officials and candi- ’ dates are not likely to hear • Mr Gostick. ■ “We will certainly not be
encouraging members to go along,” said Social Credit’s vice-president, Mr Alan Patterson-Kane. Asked if the league would discourage members from attending, Mr PattersonKane said, “quite possibly.” Social Credit actively dissociates itself from the
League of Rights, which says it is the true follower of Major C. H. Douglas, the original social creditor. In late 1979 a secret memo was sent to all Social Credit officials from the league’s leader (Mr B. C. Beetham) telling them not to have anything to do with the League of Rights. “For the security and wel-
fare of the N.Z. Social Credit League. I ask that all members have nothing whatsoever to do with the League of Rights and that in particular they steer clear of any of the forthcoming public meetings of the Australian high priest of the organisation, Mr Eric Butler.”
