N.Z. sheep selected
Corriedale breeding ewes and ‘ rams worth $1.25 million are being loaded at Timaru for shioment to Mexico. The sheep, 16,940 twotooth ewes and 730 rams, have- been bought by the Mexican Government. Mr A. Inclan, chief of the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture’s sheep department, said- that the ewes and rams would be farmed by co-operative enterprises on Government land. co in an attempt to improve the textile industry. There was a strong move to increase rural production after concentrating on industrial progress for some time. At present the.' only sheep, farmed in/Mexico was not ,a. productive animal and a change of breed was sought by the Government. Also included in the shipment on the “MeHno Express” are three ponies bred by Mrs D. Isaac, of Christchurch.
The ponies, a colt and two mares, were bought for the family of the Mexican Minister of Agriculture.. ’. • >, '
