Austrian appeal ; Austria’, has appealed to the United States, Canada. and Australia for help in coping with a growing flood of refugees, mainly from Eastern Europe. The Aus-, trian Interior Minister (MrErwin Lane) was quoted as* 'telling the Socialist Party,, that the number of refugees going to Austria in transit to other destinations had nearly; trebled in the last two, years.' More than 3000 refugees’ seeking political asylum had gone,to Austria an^h^‘"firsti quarter)-'of ' this' year,? compared with justfundfer 510,000 for the whole of last'year, he said. Austria runs the biggest refugee camp in Europe at Traiskirche’n, just outside Vienna.—Vienna.
