Trade with Chile
Sir,—The mealy-mouthed euphemism by which L. Westrieyi(May’;l2). glosses over the murder of President, Allende in ,a storm of bombing and shell- ’ Tire; in General Pinochet’s fas-cist-military coup of September, 1973, “the Chilean Marxist, leader, Allende?, vyas removed from office,” typi- . cal of the obscurantism'which the ardent supporters of the fascist Chilean junta try to win credibility for their attacks on the FOL. The fascist-military coup:in Chile was a setback, not only for Moscow, it . was a setback for the Chilean workingpeople, it was a setback for the . democratic ideals behind which the victors united to defeat the fascist Axis powers in World War 11. L. Westney has undertaken an unenviable task in trying to win sympathy and support for one of the bloodiest, right-wing dictatorships and the most rabidly racist regime in today’s world. As for the FOL’s ban on trade with Chile — more power to its. elbow. — Yours, etc., : M. CREEL. ~ ' May 13, 1981. .
