Unique Princess in line for Timaru success

By

G. K. YULE

Unique Princess has been one of the busiest horses racing hi Canterbury this season and she has gained two wins, one being the Timaru Cup on February 28. She will be having start No. 33 for the term in the Johnnie Walker Whisky Handicap at Washdyke tomorrow when her stamina could give her another success.

The daughter of Good Chase recorded 4min 17.4 s when she won the Timaru Cup and if she races up to that effort she will be hard to head. She managed a respectable ninth over 2600 m at Addington last Friday, while on May 2 on the same course she was not disgraced when fourth over 3200 m behind Dreamy Dragon in a race which resulted in a sprint home. The Peter Boag-trained

five-year-old lacks a smar' finishing sprint, but she is a dour stayer. Should the pace be solid, she should weat down her rivals over the final 200 m. Eden’s Joy followed up two fine races at Addington with a disappointing showing at Oamaru last Saturday when she broke early. The firmer footing expected at Washdyke could enable her to use her speed to good advantage. False Regal’s record is

-ather mixed, but this better efforts have been good enough to give him a top chance. He failed at Addington last Friday, but before that some of his racing had been impressive. He must be given consideration in this field. Just Sally and Cottonfields would be the pick of the remainder on the front, but a bold run from Lord Brandon would not surprise. He is much better than his recent record suggests.

Dryden Amanda, too, will have to be a leading chance, even from 10m. She is not too reliable from a standing start, but, provided she does not lose too much ground, she could be rather speedy for most of her rivals. ' Tribute, The Sting and Koau Gold could be the pick of a rather ordinary looking lot in the second leg of the main double, the General Finance Handicap, a race in which there is plenty of room for a boilover.
