Huge Thai drug haul
NZPA-Reuter Bangkok Thai narcotic's agents swooped on a pick-up truck parked at a Bangkok hotel and arrested four men. and netted the biggest haul of pure heroin ever found in Thailand. The secretary-general of the Narcotics Control Board (Major-General Pao Sarasin) said yesterday that 55kg of No. 4 heroin was found in a panel behind the vehicle's cab. and that two police radios and a revolver were also seized.
General Pao said that the haul resulted from two years of surveillance of the four suspects, all Thais, aged from. 23 t 0,49. The alleged buyer of the heroin escaped, although his ■ identity was known to the police, a narcotics officer said later. Although the haul was the biggest in Thailand of pure heroin, about 100 kg of lowergrade heroin was seized three years ago. Last vear narcotics agents netted 117 kg of heroin and 47kg of morphine.
